A lot of times when we hear about pornography we tend to think about pictures or videos. It is also frequently posed as a male problem. However, is that really how it is?
The church says:
"Pornography is any depiction, in pictures or writing, that is intended to inappropriately arouse sexual feelings."
"It may be found in written material (including romance novels), photographs, movies, electronic images, video games, social media posts, phone apps, erotic telephone conversations, music, or any other medium."
An ensign publication posted a story of a woman who realized she had developed a problem with romance novels. She points out that pornographic magazines, movies, and websites that we hear about most are primarily appealing to men because they are visually oriented. Women on the other hand are more verbally oriented. Sexually explicit literature, like visual pornography, can give a warped view of sexuality, be addictive, and have a negative affect on relationships.

A librarian talked about women using it as an escape, taking over existing relationships. She suggests we follow the 13th article of faith and ask ourselves if it is 'virtuous, lovely of good report, or praiseworthy.'

An article in LDSLiving Why Women Struggle with Pornography Too +5 Ways to Talk with Your Daughter About It. Girls are just as susceptible as boys. Many parents wrongly assume girls are not as curious and don't protect them. They go to porn for different reasons. They may begin an interest in pornography by reading erotic stories such as romance novels and online fan fiction. They warn, "If we don’t emphasize the dangers of these other avenues of pornography when teaching our children (especially daughters) and their use of them goes unchecked, ultimately, many young women will escalate to watching pornographic videos—including violent, hard-core material."

Lastly, I wanted to include this blog on the subject. I felt she had a fairly balanced view. She gives some ways to discern if a novel is dangerous territory for you. She also gives some advice to men if their wife reads romance novels but refuse romance with him. She suggests, "Why don’t you read this together? Talk to her about it. Share what you want out of your marriage, and ask her what she wants. Ask her if she can set aside certain times during the week when you do things together and rediscover each other."
