I saw this blog post on Unveiled Wife. unveiledwife.com/praying-for-your-sexual-intimacy/
Do you and your spouse pray for sexual intimacy in your marriage?
It is an awkward thought for some people. However, we know that heavenly father cares about the success of our marriages and sexual intimacy is an important part of that. Every marriage is different, so intimacy won't look the same in every marriage. But we should desire to find a balance that works for both husband and wife.
This was written from a female perspective but the same could be applied to men.
The subtopics include praying about:
1.Body Image
2.Healing from the past
3.Pleasure
4.Communication
Having a negative body image can hinder intimacy. Not long ago I was getting undressed in front of h. He told me how grateful he was that I wasn't like a co-worker of his, who hadn't undressed in front of her husband in years because she wasn't the weight she desired. I know my body isn't perfect and there are things I'd like to improve but I don't hide it from my husband. During moments of intimacy, I don't visualize or think about my flaws. I think about how sexy I feel in that moment.
Healing from the past can be a long, difficult road. It is hard to unlearn and forget. The blog briefly mentions being taught that sex was bad. I think many can relate to that. However, I thought about past hurts in the relationship. It can be hard to mend what has been broken. Even after everything is in a better place, wounds from the past can prevent us from connection the way we desire with our spouse.
Many women struggle to let themselves go when feeling sexual pleasure. One of my boyfriend's tried to talk me through an orgasm. He'd tell me to just relax. As much as I tried, I was never able to orgasm. When I married my husband I'd feel lots of pleasure and it would rise but never get me completely over the edge. I can remember during those moments, praying in my mind "Please let me cum, please let me cum." One day it finally happened and I felt such immense joy.
Communicating is probably one of the most difficult things to do. We don't want to upset our spouse, we don't know how to approach them about sensitive topics, we worry what they will think. But I know when I have prayed for the words to say and that the other person will have open heart things usually go much better than expected. Sometimes when I just can't seem to open my mouth, I write. That has helped me a lot actually.
