Today my dd asked me how I feel about people who aren't straight?
She's been going through a...I don't want to say "phase" because I don't know if it's a phase or who she is now but for lack of a better word that's what I'll say. Basically she likes anything that seems edgy (black clothes, anything about death, dark humor, etc.) I mention this because it's totally out of her character to discuss this kind of topic. Regardless, I wanted to treat her question seriously.
My first reaction to her question was are we here already? She's not even a teenager yet. She has an older cousin who she idolizes so I'm sure they've talked about some of these topics.
After I composed myself I clarified what she was asking of me? She wanted to know my opinion. I wanted to be careful because I didn't know if she was just curious or asking because she thinks she might have these feelings. I'm not going to share what we discussed but I wanted to pose this question here so that others might know how to go about it.
How should parents approach this kind of question from their child?
